Chapter 3: Uncover (9/9)

Wednesday (9/9)

What's inside and outside are not the same.

The elevator ride was quiet.  When it opened at the 37th floor, Bigger got out first and opened JZ’s door.  He took her to his room and sat on his bed with her still in his arms.  “One of you call Deng and ask her where she is and what she’s able to buy.  Leave my baby’s stuff by the door then you can leave.”

“Deng said that the only place open at the time she left was the hardware store and she bought some rope.  She would have to get the mask and handcuffs tomorrow.”

“Actually, you know what, can you both stay until Deng gets here?”

“Yeah, sure,” replied Big.

“I’m going to get some White Flower Oil.  One of you hold on to her elbows and the other hold on to her uninjured leg.”  JZ gently placed her on his bed.  “Don’t let her get away.”

JZ went out and quickly returned.  “Alright, get into position.”  He typed something on his phone and showed it to Elle.  She read, “I’m going to massage your ankle and it will hurt.”  She gave him a quick angry stare then looked away.

JZ began gently massaging her ankle and then quickly increasing his pressure.  She gripped his bedding tightly.  When he increased his pressure again, she began kicking with her uninjured foot.  He increased his pressure again and she let out an angry “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” JZ stopped for a moment, hearing her scream at the top of her lungs then huffing and puffing from the pain.  He turned her foot in circles, then jerked it side to side, then up and down, and repeated this.  She grunted loudly when he jerked it side to side.

Suddenly, Deng swung the door open with the girls behind her.  All three guys turned to the door and saw all four of them had angry or shocked faces.  “What are you all doing?” JZ asked in a calm and serious tone.  “I was following the ‘RRRRRRRRRR!’” Deng imitated.

“We thought something bad was happening to her because we heard a really loud scream,” said CeeCee, “and came to check it out.”

“Does it look like something bad is happening to her?” he asked in his calm and serious tone.

“A little.  You have The Guys practically immobilizing her,” said Hero.

“If I didn’t restrain her arms, she’d probably poke my eyes out,” said Bigger.

“If I didn’t restrain her leg, she’d probably kicked JZ in the face several times,” said Big.  “A caught trout uses its whole body; her leg does the same thing, except her leg has more force than a caught trout.”

“Really?” JZ asked laughing a bit.

“Yeah,” he confirmed and laughed a bit.

“Good one,” JZ said.  He glanced at his bed.  “Hero, do you remember where I put my bedposts?”

“No,” she answered her face a little flushed.

“Go get me two, no, get me all four.  Deng, go cut the rope in four pieces, each about a meter long.  CeeCee and Xiao Li, go home or go help them.”

The girls left to do their duties.  JZ dabbed a lot of oil on his hand, then gently rubbed it on Elle’s ankle.  He dabbed some more in his hand then rubbed his hands together.  Then he began aggressively massaging her ankle again, and she let out another loud “AAAAAAAAAAAH!” Her heavy breathing substituted her grunts when he spun her foot in circles and jerked it around.

Hero and CeeCee came in carrying a bedpost and inserted it.  Then returned three more times inserting the other two but waited until the guys were finished to insert the last one.  Deng and Xiao Li entered with what he had asked for.

“Can someone ask him if tying me up is really necessary?” Elle asked with heavy breathing.

CeeCee translated.

“It’s necessary so she doesn’t hit me, kick me, or run away,” answered JZ.

CeeCee translated.

“Ask him if I’m his slave or prisoner.”

CeeCee translated.

“She’s neither.”

CeeCee translated.

“Restricting my freedom to move around is the biggest factor in being a slave and prisoner.”

CeeCee translated.

“She’s my prisoner and I will do whatever I want to her,” getting a little frustrated with her statements.

CeeCee translated with a concerned face.

“Ask him which one or ones will I be a victim of: molestation, pornography, or rape?”

CeeCee translated with a more concerned face.

JZ stood up and SMACK! He slapped Elle across the face.  Her body dropped on the bed, bounced a couple of times, and she did not get back up.

Big and Bigger released her and grabbed JZ’s arms and pulled him into the kitchen.  “Hey,” said Bigger in a calm and concerned voice, “I don’t know how you were raised, but I was raised to not hit girls.”

“Did you hear what she asked me?” he asked rhetorically.  “She dared to accuse me of keeping her as prisoner or a slave, and then she dared to imply that I would force her into those things.  I love her and she goes and says all that.  Those words hurt me more because I love her so much, but a man can only take so much before he tells himself ‘she had it coming,’” JZ said, his temper boiling.

“I know those words hurt because I know what you’re like.  I know you don’t force girls into doing things they don’t want.  But when you’re really mad, you feel like hitting her, you hit the ground or the wall, or take the non-violent path and count backwards from ten,” said Bigger.

She makes me sooooo mad.  She talks to me like I’m the bad guy.  Did her parents not teach her now to be lady-like and obedient?”

“You become the bad guy when you hit her.  Practice not being the bad guy by not hurting her.”

“But she wrongfully said that I would do those things to her.”

“I know she made assumptions.  I know you wouldn’t do those things to her or any girl.”

Xiao Li and CeeCee approached the guys and Xiao Li said, “We’re going to take her to one of our places to spend the night and recover.”

“I’ll carry her there,” said Big.

“She’s not going anywhere,” angrily said JZ.  “If she thinks she’s my prisoner, I’ll treat her like one.  If she thinks she’s my slave, I’ll treat her like one.  If she thinks I’ll molest her, I will.  If she thinks I’ll have her in a porno, I will.  If she thinks I’ll rape her, I will.  I can do all of that to show her how good she had it before she said all that to me.”

“That’s the worst idea you’ve ever had,” said Bigger in a calm and serious voice.  “Don’t do things you’ll regret.”

“If you do those things, you’re telling her you hate her, not love her as you claimed,” said CeeCee with a strained voice trying to persuade him.

“You guys have a really tense relationship, in a bad way.  It’s better if you guys take a break from each other until you both cool down and can talk to one another like civilized adults,” said Xiao Li.

“It doesn’t matter what you all say,” JZ said angrily like they’re all against him.  “She’s staying here.  All of you will leave right now,” and stomped his way to his bedroom to tell Hero and Deng, “You need to leave right now,” in a serious tone, his face more serious.

Hero stood up and firmly said, “She needs to be protected from you.  If you can’t even control your anger-”

“I can have you deported right now, returned to the streets where you were treated worse than garbage,” he said in a serious tone with an upper hand.  “I can fire all of you and none of you will ever get a job anywhere ever again,” he shouted.  “You’ll return to your parents with shame, and the whole world will know it! Be good workers and do what I tell you and leave US!”

They hesitantly and slowly walked to the door with their heads down, looking back at Elle’s beat-up and lifeless body.

I began writing Elle's Adventure in China (EACh) in June 2014 as a fun summer project, but as obstacles kept interfering with my plans, I forked and forked more options. I took writing this novel much more seriously in mid-July, and want to have it officially published someday in my lifetime. As many artists put their hearts into their projects, so do I. I did not start out liking to read, but a professor suggested a book for me for homework a few years ago, and it was an amazing book. Since then, I read for pleasure, and I hope my novel, Elle's Adventure in China, does the same for as many of you as possible. The same thing goes to writing. I did not like to write until I took a course where the professor and papers made me love to write. I hope every one of you find what makes you happy and dedicated to work. In May 2015, I started my other blog, Read and Write Here (R&WH), as a place to post other things that aren't China- and Chinese culture-related and not EACh. I share some of my memories and experiences from student teaching, irregular participation in Daily Prompts, etc. I'd like to have regular people and bloggers to write book reviews and post it on R&WH someday. Keep reading and writing!
